Bitmap vs. Vector

In this lesson, the instructor describes the differences between Vector images and Pixel images. Vector images are items that are capable of being scaled and adjusted while keeping it’s detail and not lowering in quality. Pixel images are the opposite and are not able to be scaled or adjusted at all without losing the quality of the image.

Start Workspace

In this lesson the instructor walks us through the creation of a new workspace and how to make custom artboards. [Workspaces are the organization of Adobe Illustrator and it’s accessories] [Artboards are the areas where you can work on designs in AI]

Understanding Paths

In this lesson the instructor describes the differences between open and closed paths [Open paths are lines that do not have a meeting beginning and end] [Closed paths are lines that have a meeting beginning and end which makes a full shape]

Fills and Strokes

During this lesson the instructor described ways to use the line tool and editable factors to alter and change the shapes, colors, and extra additions such as fill and pattern to add variety to basic lines and closed shapes.

Selections and Stacking Order

In this lesson the instructor walked me through how to use the different selection tools on grouped items. He also showed me how to organize the order of the layers for optimal use.

Isolation Mode

In this lesson the instructor walks us through how to isolate a layer on an artboard. By double clicking on a layer will isolate it which allows you to edit only that layer and avoid tampering with anything nearby.

Creating New Documents

In this lesson we learn the different factors that go into creating a new document. (Width and Height for surface area) (Top, bottom, left, and right bleed for an extra area outside the artboard to have a small area that still gets detail but isn’t saved)

Anatomy of a Document

In this lesson the instructor describes to us exactly what details go into the artboard in terms of guides. Shown above there are bleed values and print tiling guides. The instructor also describes where to identify the file name and viewing mode.

Multiple Artboards

In this lesson the instructor walks us through the process of operating multiple artboards on the same file and the benefits of using multiple artboards at once. They also describe how to change the arrangement of artboards and how to change the spacing between the artboards.

Illustrator Templates

In this movie the instructor walks us through the process of accessing and using templates in Adobe Illustrator to have an easy starting point of any Adobe Illustrator design.

Saving Documents

In this lesson the instructor talks about metadata and how to edit the metadata values inside of the documents save file to make it more searchable with programs like Adobe Bridge. This allows you to contain document information like a bio or author name.
